How to explain what I am doing here …

I
am usually more interested in the images than in the objects themselves.♦
Most of the organic objects were given to me by nature and coincidence.
All I have to do is realize them, pick them up and take them along.♦

s I said before: Most of the time I like the images of the objects better than the objects themselves.
Sometimes it is the other way round.
And sometimes I do not even know or care.♦

S
ome of the organic objects I work on and with come from far away … Andalucía, Capo Verde, …
I smuggled them here thru the customs in my luggage, wrapped into my used clothes.♦

S
ometimes I have to prevent my partner form secretly throwing my beloved objects into the garbage bin … or onto the compost heap …
Addition: Though I am familiar with Beuys I do not feel like he must have felt in moments like this.♦

U
sually I am afraid of touching, and working on, the natural objects – because they are so precious and unique to me. I do not want to spoil or even destroy them by manipulating their natural condition.
I guess that’s why I prefer to create images of them. Images can be reproducted and reproduced. They can be replaced, substituted and multiplied as often as necessary or desired.♦

andcrafts …?! Actually, I am not too good at them.
So I sometimes ask my partner to fix, glue, paint, conserve or frame my pieces of natural art.♦

any of the ‚naterials‘ I use are organic – they are, or at least used to be, alive. So they are as fleeting, vague, preliminary and mortal as human beings are. – We are aging, rotting, decaying and passing simultaneously. This is what makes them even more precious and familiar to me.♦

S
ometimes I also work with non-organic (artifcial) materials. Their advantage: They do not decay right before my eyes.
But I have to breathe ’soul‘ into them – it is not in them right from the start.♦

es, of course you may try to interpret the objects or make an attempt to clearly define what you see – or even what they mean or want to say.
Yet you will probably be wrong. In other words: You cannot possibly be wrong by trying to make or find sense.♦

eing born and raised in a vivid city with a big river streaming to the sea it was easy – and inevitable – to not become narrow-minded. I have seen to many waves coming and going and so many big ships travelling up and down and down and up … How could I possibly have developed a rigid mind?!♦
